University Preparation
Thukema aims to prepare beneficiaries for tertiary studies.
The following activities are part of the preparatory process:
• Guidance on choosing universities
• Guidance in completing the application process
• Assistance in sourcing and applying for Bursaries
• Preparation for interviews
Basic Computer Skills
Our beneficiaries are equipped with basic computer skills to enable them to navigate through the digital space. The basic computer skills such as sending emails, conducting internet research, creating word documents and creating presentations, help students achieve success in universities. It has become imperative to know basic computer skills to survive in the world.
At our Saturday School, we provide Grade 11 and Grade 12 students with comprehensive instruction in core subjects such as Mathematics, Science, Geography, and Life Science. Our classes are led by experienced educators who are dedicated to the success of our learners. We prioritize enjoyable learning experiences, fostering an environment where students are encouraged to ask questions, engage in discussions, and collaborate with their peers. This approach not only enhances their understanding of these subjects but also cultivates problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills. Our emphasis on group work promotes teamwork, and regular assessments ensure that students grasp the material. As an after-school program, our impact becomes evident when learners receive their term reports from their schools, consistently ranking among the top performers. Our commitment extends beyond academics; we are here to support our learners on their unique educational journeys. We equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in these subjects and prepare for their future university studies in STEM fields. Additionally, we provide them with tools to plan their future careers and develop essential leadership skills, making them well-rounded individuals.
Our holiday school program takes place during school vacations and provides a unique and enriching experience for learners. Just like our Saturday School, our beneficiaries attend daily, but during the holiday program, we offer an expanded curriculum that goes beyond traditional classroom learning. In addition to academic subjects, our holiday school curriculum incorporates a wide range of additional activities that are designed to foster holistic development. These activities include exciting field excursions that allow learners to explore and learn from the world around them. These excursions provide real-world context to what they've been studying and help broaden their horizons. One of the core components of our holiday school program is the emphasis on leadership skills. We believe in nurturing not only academic excellence but also the development of essential life skills. Through workshops and interactive sessions, we empower our students to become confident and responsible leaders in their communities. To inspire and motivate our beneficiaries, we often invite guest speakers who are experts in their fields or have unique life experiences to share. These speakers provide valuable insights into various careers and life paths, helping students envision their own future possibilities. Our alumni form an essential support network within the program. They serve as mentors and role models, guiding current beneficiaries by sharing their personal learning journeys and experiences. Alumni also play a pivotal role in preparing the learners for tertiary education, offering guidance on university applications, bursaries and scholarships, and the transition to university life.
Thukema aims to prepare beneficiaries for tertiary studies and future careers in the STEM fields. Beneficiaries are provided with tools that enable them to prepare for their educational journey and future career aspirations. Sessions facilitated by alumni and professionals are a source of university related information and career information. Twice a year beneficiaries go on educational field excursions, that provide real life experiences. The following activities are part of the preparatory process: • Guidance on the university application process • Creating career awareness • Assistance in sourcing and applying for Bursaries • Coaching on how to prepare for interviews
The Chosen’s model is holistic and incorporates nutritional support. During lunch time beneficiaries enjoy nutritional meals prepared by a professional caterer.
We offer our beneficiaries psycho-social support in times of need.
